Our Classes

Art Adventure

$375

with Rob Kimmel

Calendar Jun 28, 2021 at 8:30 am, runs for 1 week

Ages: For students entering grades 2nd through 6th grade

A week of world-building, exploring, and creating, using art, imagination, and the backyard wilderness. Projects will include sculpting creatures with clay, building homes for them with found objects, and drawing maps of the worlds they live in. We will even make masks and do some improv role-play to imagine how they move and talk, and make short books to tell their stories.

Rob Kimmel is an illustrator, graphic designer, and educator. He has an MFA in writing for children from Simmons University, and taught at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He is rarely seen without a pencil in hand! Born and raised in Chicago, Rob worked in the theater for several years and has traveled extensively from North Africa to South Asia. These varied experiences flavor his approach to art and writing. He has taught at the MSN Summer Program for the last six years.

This summer we will be taking very specific safety precautions to ensure the health of students and staff: requiring all students and staff to wear masks, socially distance and routinely wash hands, keeping each classroom size lower than usual, daily health screenings, and emphasizing outdoor class as much as possible. Outdoor class time will occur under a large tent or on our expansive playground.

Payment plan available: $100 deposit plus 2 payments of $91.66, paid every two weeks. Final payment of $91.68.

Children's House I: Mindfulness & Inner Peace (Full Day)

$555
Calendar Jun 28, 2021 at 8:30 am, runs for 2 weeks

Ages: For students 2 years, 9 months to 6 years old

Your child will join our skilled and inspired staff for fun in the sun and shade led by a Montessori trained Lead Teacher. Classrooms at the Montessori School of Northampton are thoughtfully prepared environments set up to inspire creative play, independence, and joy. The program’s low teacher to child ratio supports individualized time with students and creates a relaxed, summer pace.  The children are encouraged to make their own play choices from the different areas of the classroom: Reading Loft, Everyday Living, Peace Corner, Blocks, puzzles, games, and other engaging manipulatives. Fantasy play is encouraged! Each two-week session highlights a different theme. Our resident artist plans daily art projects related to the session's theme. At circle times, classroom teachers explore the theme through books, songs, and teacher presentations. The program features fun outdoor play in a park-like setting, wading pools, water play (PM only), and a large children’s playground. We offer indoor fun in one of the best-equipped, most beautiful classroom environments in the Pioneer Valley.
